Oskar Blues Shipping Water to Flint, MI

“Hey Flint, Michigan, we’ve got 50,000 cans of fresh water comin’ atchu. It took a little bit for our CAN’d Aid Foundation crew to figure out the logistics, but Oskar Blues Brewery North Carolina is canning and shipping the water as we speak.”
The crisis in Flint began nearly two years ago, when the city abandoned its old water source — Lake Huron — and opted for a cheaper one, Flint River. But the new supply corroded water pipes, and lead leached into the system.
Flint switched back, but lead levels in its water supplies have remained high, leaving vulnerable groups, such as children, at risk.

The treasure chest of the nation’s brewing industry sits on an unassuming office complex on the outskirts of Norwich. It houses thousands of different types of yeast. Some, unused for generations, are now being given a new lease of life to offer a taste of times past.

Back in the 1920s a handful of beer-makers shared a fear: what would happen if we lost our brewing yeast?

They not only agreed such an occurrence would be very bad news, they also agreed on a solution – to deposit a sample of their all important yeast in a shared collection for safety.

Today that collection – the National Collection of Yeast Cultures (NCYC) – is home to 4,000 different yeasts.

Cascade Blackcap Raspberry: Blended wheat & blond ales ages in oak barrels with blackcap raspberries for up to 14 months. 2015 vintage. 7.63% ABV
 

Cascade Sang Rouge: Blended sour red ales aged in oak wine barrels and oak foundres for up to three years. 2013 vintage. 8.4% ABV
 
Cascade Strawberry: Blended wheat & blonde ales aged in oak barrels with wild strawberries & vanilla beans for up to 12 months. 2014 vintage. 7.56%
 

Terrapin Beer Company and The Walking Dead have teamed up to brew the official beer of the undead. Made with blood orange peel, and a horrific amount of hops, this bloodthirsty Red IPA will have you prepared for the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse. 6.7% ABV
